UTSA Southwest Campus to host Gala in The Garden to support community arts programming

November 2, 2022

OCTOBER 26, 2022 — Continuing a 42-year-old tradition of the Southwest School of Art, UTSA will host Gala in The Garden, a signature university event on Wednesday, November 2, and Thursday, November 3.

Thanks to the generosity of many donors who have celebrated the gala year after year, the annual event has supported SSA’s mission to teach and advance the arts. This year, event proceeds will continue to support UTSA’s community arts education programs — benefiting adults and primarily children and teens from low-income households.

The event will kick off on Wednesday, November 2, with the opening of the art sale from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the UTSA Southwest Coates Chapel. The gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, at the UTSA Southwest McNutt Gardens. It includes the continued art sale, a formal dinner and an after party.

“UTSA is honored to host Gala in The Garden — an event that celebrates the arts and also directly supports community programs aimed at expanding arts education and training for adults and children throughout San Antonio,” said Kimberly Andrews Espy, UTSA provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs.  “This event builds on the shared commitment to expanding arts education in our city that was brought together as one through the integration of UTSA and the Southwest School of Art earlier this year. As an urban serving research university committed to serving our city, UTSA proudly advances this deep legacy of impact with this year’s Gala.”
