Stanford Research Identifies Prof. Robert Tokunaga as Influential Communication Scholar

November 2, 2022

Associate Professor of Communication Robert Tokunaga has been identified as among the top 2% most influential Communication and Media Studies scholars of the last 60 years (1960-2021). A research team led by a Stanford School of Medicine Professor developed the ranking database, which was published by Elsevier. Influence rankings were based on a variety of citation metrics and calculated across a number of scientific fields and subfields. Previously, research published in Communication Education found that Dr. Tokunaga was in the top 1% of publication productivity in the most prestigious journals in the field of communication. Dr. Paul Wright, Professor and Director of Communication Science at Indiana University’s flagship Bloomington campus and a collaborator of Dr. Tokunaga’s, said “This is a remarkable feat for any professor, regardless of longevity. But for an Associate Professor, it is truly exceptional. Whether Robert is judged by productivity (number of articles) or influence (citations to articles), he is clearly a leader in the discipline of communication.”
