Two UTSA productions, Honk and The Magic Flute will receive at least one Globe Award at the 18th Annual Globe Awards, October 5, 2008 at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. Congratulations to Dr. William McCrary, Director of Lyric Theatre and to the cast and crew.

Traveling near to Grand Rapids, MI or Sacramento, CA in October and November?
Ken Little, Department of Art and Art History has a one person exhibition titled "Shell Games: The work of Ken Little" on view at the De Pree Gallery at Hope College in Holland Michigan. It opened on August 29 and will be there through Oct 5. It is one of the featured exhibitions of the "21st International Sculpture Center Conference: Sculpture in Public" being held at the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids Michigan, October 2-4. The conference is sponsored by the International Sculpture Center, Washington D.C.
Additionally, on Nov 8 Ken will open a Two Person Exhibition with former UTSA alum Kim Squaglia at the Jay Jay Gallery in Sacramento California.
Two recent COLFA graduates won Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships for 2009-10. Rawan Arar (Sociology, '08) will take her scholarship to Egypt and Annabelle Ramirez (Anthropology, '07) will take hers to Scotland. The Rotary Scholarships are designed to further international understanding and goodwill, as Rotary Scholars study abroad for one year. The Scholarships provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, and educational supplies up to $30,000. During their time abroad, Rotary Scholars act as “ambassadors of goodwill,” appearing at Rotary clubs, schools, civic organizations, and other forums to represent their home countries and further international understanding.
Richard Martinez, Department of Art & Art History, is currently showing six new paintings at The Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi in Field of Color: Seven Contemporary Artists. The exhibition was put together by the museum’s curator, Deborah Fullerton, and will feature an exhibition catalog. Martinez work is also currently featured in Expansion, a group show at Fresh Paint Art, in Los Angeles, California, and in The Fine Art of Drawing, at the Museum of Fine Arts, at FSU in Tallahassee, Florida, with exhibition catalog.
Steven G. Kellman, Professor of Comparative Literature, Department of English will receive Gemini Ink's Literary Excellence Award during their INKstravaganza gala Thursday, September 25 at the historic Pearl Stable at 6:30 pm.
