Faculty Artist Series: Susan Olson

The University of Texas at San Antonio Department of Music is excited to announce its’ 2016 Faculty Artist Recital Series. This series will give you an opportunity to enjoy our top-tier performance faculty in recital in the UTSA Recital Hall. We invite you to spend your fall listening to the diverse programing from our free Artist Recital Series.

The series kicks off on Monday September 12 with the violin recital entitled, “Majoring in Minor” featuring Mary Ellen Goree. Ms. Goree will perform pieces by Mozart, J.S. Bach, Telemann, Kreisler and Brahms accompanied on piano by Robert Brewer.

Dr. Patty Fagan Miller performs a recital on bassoon on Monday September 19 accompanied by Amy Pikler on recorder and Robert Brewer on harpsichord on Vivaldi’s Sonata in a minor; Rita Linard on flute on Songs and Dances by Bill Douglas and pieces by Schumann and Saint-Saens accompanied on piano by Robert Brewer.

Baritone Scott Flanagan performs in the first vocal recital of the Faculty Artist Series On Tuesday September 20 with an evening of British songs by composers Purcell, Butterworth, Britten and Finzi. Mr. Flanagan’s performance will be entirely sung in English with Rita Linard accompanying on piccolo and Robert Brewer on piano.

On Sunday September 25, Flutist, Dr. Rita Linard and Professor Linda Poetschke, soprano will collaborate on a recital entitled,” Folk Music from Around the World” with Anna Hakobyan on piano.

Dr. Kasandra Keeling will perform a solo piano recital on Monday September 26. Dr. Keeling’s program will consist of compositions by Mozart, Granados, Liszt, Ginastera, and Muczynski. Dr. Keeling performs on the Steinway piano.

The series continues in the month of October with the Faculty Chamber Ensemble recital on Tuesday the 4th.

Andrew Bergmann and Eleven performs a brand-new piece composed by Andrew Bergmann titled: Five and a Half Among the Planets Visited With Maxwell. The Eleven include Morgan King, Richard Oppenheim, Rene Saenz- Saxophones, Flute; Adrian Ruiz- Trumpet, Flugelhorn; Chris Villanueva, Aaron Prado, Brett Cline- Piano, Keyboards;

Jacqueline Sotelo- Vocals; Andrew Bergmann- Electric and Upright Bass; Joe Caploe, John Fernandez, Mike Mixtacki- Percussion and Drums.

Capping the series, Dr. Susan Olson will perform a solo vocal recital featuring works from musical theater, contemporary composers such as Barry Manilow and will conduct an audience participation on Leonard Cohen’s  Hallelujah.
