BOECE
923. ECKHARDT, CAROLINE D. "The Medieval Prosimetrum Genre (from Boethius to Boece)." Genre 16 (1983):21-38.
Studies the prosimetrum tradition from Boethius to Chaucer in order to understand why Chaucer translated Boethius's verse-and-prose De consolatione philosophhiae into prose only. While "no characteristic" of the tradition explains Chaucer's motive, his desire for clarity may have been the cause.
