Background

Sociology is the study of human social life, social change, and the social causes and the consequences of social behavior.  Analysis ranges from the study of small groups and communities to whole societies and global social processes.  The subject matter of sociology varies from the study of crime, inequality, social change, and marriage and divorce, to social problems including racism, sexism, poverty, violence and homelessness.  Sociology majors use theory and a range of research techniques to explore these areas.
