UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts

Program

In 2003, the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) Advising Center implemented the Partnership for Academic Success (P.A.S) Program.  This effort focuses on the development of skills that can help students strengthen their academic performance.  The COLFA Advising Center monitors the academic progress for our students each semester they are enrolled at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  With an emphasis on knowledge and reflection, online presentations and exercises increase a student's awareness of study skills and time management.

Students who have been placed on probation for the first time and students who have been reinstated will be required to participate in the PAS Program.

Objective

Based on our belief that your academic success is contingent upon establishing a partnership with your Academic Advisor, the objective of the P.A.S. Program is to take a proactive approach to assisting students on their path to graduation.  The following exercises can help you realize the challenges that led to difficulty in the classroom and enhance those skills that will help you get back on your feet academically and gain more confidence, and increase your awareness of tools that will help you meet your academic and professional goals.

To remain in good standing for academic purposes, including graduation, students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.  Students whose overall UTSA GPA falls below a 2.0 are placed on academic probation.  Academic probation is cleared when a student achieves a cumulative UTSA GPA of 2.0 or above.  While on probation, a student must maintain a term GPA average of 2.0 or above in each semester of probation in order to remain enrolled; if a probationary student's term GPA falls below 2.0, he will be placed on academic dismissal.

Students who have been dismissed academically for the first time may be reinstated after not attending UTSA for the next regular semester (fall, spring, or both summer sessions); 'first time dismissal' students seeking reinstatement must file an application for admission by the appropriate deadline.

Students dismissed academically for a second or subsequent time may be reinstated after not attending UTSA for one calendar year.  After this year, students may petition for reinstatement to the Dean of the College of Liberal and Fine Arts.  Petition for Reinstatement forms must be filed by the following deadlines:

October 15

Spring Semester

March 15

Summer Semester

June 15

Fall Semester

If the petition for reinstatement is disapproved, a student may not file another petition until the following semester.  Appeal of a denial for reinstatement may be made to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs within two (2) weeks after notice of the denial is postmarked.  The decision of the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is final.

The PAS Program has been modeled after the C.L.A.S. Program from the University of Florida
