Mission Statement:

The study of history is vital to a liberal arts education because it explores the full range of human experiences and analyzes the unfolding of those experiences across time and space. The mission of the History Department is to enhance our collective knowledge of the past, train students in how to develop informed and discerning perspectives on the past, and disseminate the benefits of a historical education to the multicultural populations of San Antonio, South Texas and beyond. The Department pursues this mission by promoting faculty and student research, teaching a comprehensive curriculum in History, American Studies and Women and Gender Studies, and fostering professional contributions to the community by faculty and students.
