Congratulations to Dr. Ben Olguin
A letter from Dr. Bridget Drinka, Department Chair:
Dear Colleagues and Students,
I know you will all want to join me in congratulating Dr. Ben Olguin
for having won the President's Teaching Excellence Award. This is an
extremely prestigious honor, and a well deserved one! As President
Romo announced, Ben will be honored at the 2009 Faculty Honors
Convocation on April 30, 10:30 am, at the Retama Auditorium. Ben's
teaching is meritorious in a number of ways: he has created innovative
teaching methodologies using, for example, the model of the testimonio;
he has performed outreach to the prison community, and encouraged his
students to engage in such outreach; he has mentored our students to
achieve national honors, including three students who have received
Ford Fellowships; and he has provided sustained and vigorous support
for our Ph.D. program. For all of these reasons and many others, I am
pleased to extend to him our Department's hearty congratulations!
All the best,
Bridget
