UTSA English Students Shine!
A letter from Dr. Drinka, Department Chair
Dear Colleagues,
I am extremely pleased to announce that three of our Ph.D. candidates successfully defended their dissertations last week: Lenora Perry-Samaniego, Cordy Barrera, and Jody Briones. We are all enormously proud of their accomplishment, and wish them all the best in their future endeavors. I hope that many of you will be able to attend graduation ceremonies this Fall, to celebrate their success.
I'm also happy to inform you that our first Ph.D. graduate, Lori Rodriguez, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Chicana/o Studies at the University of Minnesota. This is a huge accomplishment, and a matter of real pride for all of us.
There is much to be proud of among our present and former Ph.D. students: as many of you saw announced on UTSA Today, Marco Cervantes has accepted a position as Assistant Professor in BBL, beginning Fall 2010; he will spend next year on a Ford Fellowship, finishing his dissertation. And, recapping the announcement made by Sonia Saldivar-Hull, we are also very proud of the fact that Patricia Trujillo has accepted a postion as Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Colorado State University in Pueblo, specializing in Composition and Rhetoric with an emphasis in Race Theory. She will also be associated with the Women's Studies and Chicano Studies Programs.
This seems the appropriate time to send a note of appreciation to all of you who have worked so hard with our 7 Ph.D. graduates and our current students--thanks to each one of you for the immense commitment of time and effort you have shown. It's all beginning to bear fruit.
Best regards,
Bridget
